Why Christian Schooling?
In 10 years' time, your child will remember less than 10% of the facts crammed into his or her head. So what is the true purpose of Education? What really happens at school?
True, there is preparation for further studies or for a career, but more significant is the training of children's philosophy of life and view of the world. See our Philosophy of education.
Education in general today is based on the Greek view that "Man is the measure of all things", rather than the Biblical view that "God is the measure of all things". Make no mistake, this is going on in schools today. Just look at the programs and policies in a typical state school, and you will see that secular humanism is the foundation of every subject taught and every activity conducted.
The Bible tells us, on the other hand, that "the
fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge." (Proverbs 1:7a) Also,
"[God's] word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm
119:105)
In other words, knowledge - all knowledge - should be founded on God's word, which gives true direction in life.
River City Christian College is a Christian school with a God-centred curriculum. In all subjects, from Mathematics to English, God is given the glory for the knowledge we gain. Godly wisdom and Christian character are part of the course content, not just relegated to a few minutes of "religious education" during the week. From the earliest phonics reading course to year 12 senior Maths and Physics, God’s Word is highlighted and lifted up; Scripture memory and understanding even takes a part in every assessment.
Above all, River City Christian College works hard in cooperation with parents to promote a caring environment where Christian character is encouraged and rewarded, where children do not have to defend their faith in Jesus Christ to scoffing peers, but are nevertheless trained to do just that as they mature and enter the "real" world.
